| Foram realizadas comparações entre o Método das Pesagens e o Método Gravimétrico Padrão utilizados para determinar a umidade dos solo. Para determinar a umidade foram tiradas dez amostras e feitas três dimensões nas profundidades de 0cm a 20cm em quatro tipos de solo. Os dados foram comparados através do coeficiente de correlação (r), encontrando-se r=0,9607 para Podzolico Vermelho Amarelo sob capoeira; r= 0,8988 para Podzolico Vermelho Amarelo sob mata sem uso; r= 0,8967 para Latossolo Amarelo sob mata sem uso; e r=0,9503 para Latossolo Amarelo sob mata com uso, todos positivos e significativos, indicando equivalência entre os dois métodos para esses solos. Recomenda-se o Método das Pesagens por ser mais simples, rápido e exigirem instrumentos mais simples. |

| Os teores de carbono orgânico total (COT) no solo podem ser determinados por técnicas que se baseiam tanto na combustão por via úmida quanto por via seca. No entanto, a primeira apresenta-se como uma técnica demorada, porém, largamente utilizado nos laboratórios brasileiros para análise de solos. O objetivo da presente pesquisa é analisar os teores de carbono orgânico de solos do Acre submetidos à diferentes procedimentos analíticos. As amostras foram submetidas a diferentes condições de tratamento sendo aquecidas e não aquecidas, maceradas e não maceradas, bem como variar a concentração do titulante, sendo empregadas seis diferentes formas de determinação do carbono. | Patulin is a mycotoxin produced by several fungal species of the genera Penicillium and Aspergillus, found on several fruit species and, remarkably, in apples and apple products. Patulin has a broad spectrum of toxicity, including carcinogenicity and teratogenicity in animals. Due to the stability of the molecule, considerable amounts of patulin still remain in apple products after processing. This paper reviews different analytical methods for patulin determination and methods to reduce levels of patulin in apple products as well. |

| To attain sustainable development in the 21st century, the world's population still has to overcome many challenges; hunger, poverty, environmental degradation and depletion. Policy design in such a context is and will remain a complex task. On one hand, policy makers often lack information on stakeholders' strategies and constraints as well as on potential options for improvement. | ABSTRACT In this study, the effect of replacement of soybean meal with raw chickpea seeds as a primary protein source in the diet of broiler chicks on physical properties of drumstick muscle (m. gastrocnemius) was examined. One-day-old Ross 308 broilers (n=160) were fed soybean meal (n=80) or raw chickpea seeds (n=80) as a primary protein source for 42 days. | Lake Riñihue is the last in a chain of glacially derived oligotrophic lakes in southern Chile and was the subject of limnological research by Dr. Hugo Campos and co-workers at the Universidad Austral de Chile, Valdivia, Chile, since the 1970's. Prof. Campos died in the field in 1998, and this paper now presents a review of these data with comments on methodology relevant to trophic parameters of this lake. Data are presented on inorganic nutrients, chlorophyll a, phytoplankton biomass, primary production and Secchi depth obtained over a period of 21 years between 1978 and 1997 in order to evaluate potential changes in these parameters over time.
